Ahiru Onsen

This is a dedicated web site for rubber ducks. Now I can find many of them in my house somehow. They just multiply in number while you are unaware… Let me add a word about the title of this site (for those who doesn’t speak Japanese) – “Ahiru” stands for a duck, especially a domestic duck, and “Onsen” stands for a hot spring. It’s kind of fun to imagine a rubber duck floating in a hot spring :)

duck

Domesticated ducks are descended from the mallard. They are usually found in fresh water, smaller than swans and geese. Like other domesticated birds, they are not capable of long distance flight.

rubber duck

A duck-shaped floating bathtub toy made of latex or soft vinyl plastic. Yellow of ducklings’ feather is the most typical color of its body. However, even adult ducks you can find in “Mom and Babies” sets have yellow appearance in general. While it is commonly referred as a “rubber duck”, “rubber duckie” or a “rubber ducky”, I’m using “duckie” for this website’s URL, showing respect to Ernie of Sesame Street who made it globally famous by his rubber duckie song.
